Although largely unknown in Australia, the Taubman Approach to piano technique has had remarkable success in the USA in assisting pianists to find ease and virtuosity through overcoming technical deficiencies, pain and injury. It was developed by innovator Dorothy Taubman over forty years of research, based on rigorous study of science, anatomy, physics and the construction of the piano. The philosophy is very similar to the Alexander Technique, in that each part of the body is only required to do what it does best, creating maximum efficiency with minimum effort. Often after retraining, pianists find that they have greater ease and virtuosity than they did prior to injury. I am one of these lucky pianists.
